I thought I'd share more snaps from yesterday's sunset photoshoot.

Being Mum

What does it mean being a mum? It means that within the same day I am an amputee surgion and bed designer/builder... For my daughter's Barbie doll, that is. I think I just earned the Barbie Nobel prize.
Poor Barbie! Her leg broke clean off at the knee and required immediate surgery. The damage has been fixed, of course, she will never bend that leg again. It could have been worse though. If unsuccessful I would have been making a wheel chair instead of a bed for Barbie.

Barbie's broken leg - post surgery.
Sticky tape and a Barbie band-aid did the trick.
Barbie is expected to make near perfect recovery. All she needs is some bed rest.

I proceeded to build a hospital bed for Barbie, using a cereal box, decorative
paper, scissors, tape and some scrap fabric.

Barbie can now rest easy. Goodnight!

Sunset Beach

Earlier this evening I drove to Brighton just before sunset to get in some glorious photos. There were so many people enjoying the beach. There were kite surfers, people eating dinner, fishermen, other photographers plus a wedded couple.

What Is It?

My eldest girl noticed this little bug in the backyard. She thought it was a spider. I said that it wasn't a spider. But I haven't a clue what sort of bug it is. Or I should say 'what sort of a shell of a bug it is?'

Less Summer More Autumn

I am so over Summer. Puh-lease bring on the Autumn. I am one of the rare few that cannot bare the hot weather. I used be able to, when I was a kid. But these days I dream of Canadian sea changes. Of course anyone who follows my rants is quite familiar with my dream of breathing Canadian air.

Yay! Hooray! Making good progress on my granny square project. I have now made 64 pieces. If my math is correct that is 31 % complete. To see the full progress of this project, simply follow this link.

Candle and Light

Today I had a bit of fun taking photos of a candle and playing with different exposure settings - of the candle and of the man's sky view [as opposed to a birds eye view.].

Vivienne Westwood Can't Go Wrong

It is not often that I go gaga for major fashion labels, but I will make an exception for Vivienne Westwood and this charming little black number...

Admiration, Projects, Ideas and Music

So what is happening in the world of Melissa? I am reading Neon Angel by Cherie Currie and I am hooked, line and sinker. I am so into it that I have created an ipod playlist that includes Joan Jet, David Bowie, Blondie, Billy Idol, The Divinyls. What is the theme here? Well I guess it's vintage rock mixed with essence of pop - old school baby.

I am also working on my granny square project - 52 squares down. I just gotta work on that momentum.
I am brainstorming new photography ideas. And of course Cherie's book has been inspiring me and I have had a whole bunch of fresh ideas burning a hole in my brain since 3 o'clock this morning. So you can imagine I am a bit tired this morning.
I have saved my first piece for my eventual pinhole camera. It is a baby formula cannister. My next step will be to spray the inside of the can with black matte paint.
Yonks ago I had a Vogue magazine with this creative fashion shoot involving balloons. I was reminded of the photoshoot when my daughters were playing with balloons the other day. The photography in question was by Sølve Sundsbø and here are some examples from his balloon fashion shoot...

7 x 7

I have now ploughed through 49 pieces for my granny square project. I almost cannot believe I am actually getting through with this. Years ago if you told me that I would one day know how to crochet I'd probably laugh and say 'I think not'. Not because I wasn't into it, but just that it wouldn't have occurred to me that I was capable of teaching myself. And now here I am making a granny square blanket. That's something to be proud of.

Holey Light

I love the leaf eaten tree that resides down near the entrance of the driveway. Especially how the light filters through the holes, like an intergalactic space party.

Weekend Photo Fun

I have been busy this weekend, wearing my Mama hat. Once in a while I found time to read a little, play Connect 4 with my husband and experiment with my Canon camera.
